    Healing properties of Ginger (Zingiber Officinale)

Ginger is well known historically as a medicinal herb with many healing properties.  It's also wide spread in the culinary world.

Ginger is natively grown in Asia but it’s widely cultivated in Africa.

Cloves

 Healing properties of Cloves (Syzygium aromacticum)

 The Clove adds a mix of strong, sweet, and mildly bitter flavors to your recipes' foods, it is also a natural remedy, it repels pesky insects and serves as a food preservative. 

Cloves are native to the Maluku (Spice Island) in Indonesia but its also now grows in other parts of the world, including India, Madagascar, and Brazil.

Cinnamon

    Healing properties of Cinnamon (Ceylon) True Cinnamon, which is from the laurel’s family aromatic tree bark, enhances various foods, and essential oils are used in perfumes and medicine.  There are two types: Common Cassia and the rare Ceylon.  Its native to Southern China, but Farmers now grow varying sub species across East and South Asia.

Cardamom

     Healing properties of Cardamom (Elettaria) Known as the “Queen of spices” is widely used in the culinary community and healers with its sweet and slightly pungent taste.   Cardamom from the regions of the misty mountains of southern India and Sri Lanka. It’s also cultivated in Guatemala.

Star-Anise

 Star Anise (Illicium Verum) Is native to South China and northeast Vietnam. It's mainly produced in China.  The uses range from cooking, perfumery, soaps, toothpaste, mouth washes and skin creams.

Raw Honey 

 

    Healing Properties of honey.  Honey is a syrup like substance that naturally occurs in nature made by honeybees that create it using nectar from plants/flowers.

Raw honey, although mainly used to sweeten foods, drinks, etc, has many health benefits that play a role in home remedies and alternative medicine.

Lime

Are supposedly originated from Malaysia, around 1,500miles east of Sri Lanka.

They’re now widely cultivated in subtropical and tropical regions in different areas around the world.  Limes are the most consumed citrus globally especially in cuisines from Mexico, India and southern Asia.

·       High in vitamin C

·       Antioxidant

·       May Prevent kidney stones

·        Aid in iron absorption

·       Promotes healthy skin

·       Helps with white blood cell production

 

Diabetes

   When it comes to ginger, research shows that it’s in fact safe to consume and can offer serval health benefits. For instance, study show possible improvements in blood sugar management and insulin sensitivity.  Including ginger into a diabetic’s diet is beneficial but should be done carefully and to consult a health care provider.

Cloves may also help manage diabetes in an individual due to its eugenol compound which is known to help regulate blood sugar levels. Cloves are known to have Antioxidant properties which can aid with oxidative stress in the body.  This is particular important with diabetes cause the oxidative stress worsens symptoms.

Honey has a lower glycemic index than white sugar but be advised, it can cause blood sugar spikes especially if it’s consumed in large amounts.

The rest of the herbs are very similar in the aspect of their properties. Cardamom does have a higher carbohydrate content, so make sure to consume in moderation. That goes for the rest of the Herbs and Gabe’s Ginger Ade as a whole.
